"lib xxx.so" files, then you can try a few things.

Run "ncl" and get one or more errors about not finding

There are a number of dependencies on shared libraries. Some of the NCL binaries are OPeNDAP-enabled, which means
#Sudo apt get install gfortran download
"4.7.2", then you should download one of these binaries: Window to get the type of system you have (32-bit or 64-bit), theįlavor of LINUX you are running (RedHat/RHEL, Debian, CentOS, etc),įor example, if the above commands report "x86_64", "Debian 8", and System you have, then type the following commands from a terminal If you want to download a Linux binary that is close to the kind of Or one of these two binaries if you don't need OPeNDAP support: If you are not sure which Linux binary to download, we recommend System using GNU compilers version 4.7.2. The above binary was compiled on a 64-bit RedHat release 6.4 (RedHat/RHEL, Debian, CentOS, SuSE Linux), the "bitness" (32-bit orĦ4-bit), and which version of the GNU or Intel compilers it wasĬompiled with. The binary filenames contain the type of Linux it was built on If you are installing pre-compiled NCL binaries on a Linux system, This document contains helpful notes on choosing theĬorrect NCL precompiled binary for your LINUX machine,Ĭhoosing the right NCL binary for your Linux system This compiler option should be avoided if possible as it degrades the performance of the Fortran code.NCL > Download Running NCL under Linux systems gfortran can be forced to assume g77 ABI by passing -ff2c. G77 is binary compatible with f2c, but not with gfortran.
#Sudo apt get install gfortran code
It also generates faster code and gives us better error messages. gfortran, on the other hand, supports modern Fortran standards (Fortran 90, 95, 2003, and 2008) in addtion to the older Fortran 77 and Fortran 66 (aka FORTRAN IV), and is a clear improvement over g77 and f2c. With a modern CPU (long pipeline and branch prediction) and a modern C compiler (much better alias analysis), g77 gives you no advantage over the original f2c. f2c and g77 was written by the same man and are otherwise identical. All g77 did was to skip C as an intermediate language as it came with a speed penalty in the 1980s and early 1990s. G77 is the same compiler known as f2c (which can be downloaded from Netlib), or more precisely a shell script called fc which called f2c and then cc on the output. Binary files and libraries are also not compatible between g77 and gfortran, as they use different ABIs. Gfortran is a modern Fortran compiler based on the g95 compiler.

g77 is replaced by gfortran in the GNU compiler collection (GCC), it is not renamed gfortran. G77 ang gfortran are different compilers. "Quark" wrote in his answer that g77 is renamed gfortran.
